Looks like we're in for stormy weather

That was the chart for yesterday, and i'm now back in the yurt after sheltering on various floors for the last few weeks off and on. Thanks to Ali and Andrew for their hospitality.
Looks pretty stormy for the week ahead but hoping for an easterly or northerly to test out the wind turbine, and maybe the electric blanket can go on...exciting!

Electrickery

This is the set up for internet, music, lighting and processing digital recordings, video, photo and sound.
The ASUS uses very little power especially if  the battery is removed, alot of the power consumption is used in recharging the battery so there's no point having it in unless I'm on the move.
The yagi aeriel with modified and unlocked dongle helps get a 3G signal in what is a marginal reception area, the nearest phone aeriel to the north of here is Isle of Mann and thats what I pick up facing north.
The rest of the gear is pretty straight forward
Leisure Batteries, fused with 50amp, an old rutland voltage regulator;

3 phase rectifying diode for the windturbine, ammeter, 30amp trip switch,
A 700watt 240v inverter(on bottom shelf) 12volt flurescent strip light uses little power and is warmer than led( need to try some of the new ones) a low-energy 240v 20watt bulb in a holder for bright light if necessary ( prefer candles most of time)
a very low power consuption 12volt car amplifier to play music from computer or MP3 ETC. Thats the inside.

Living Off Grid

This is a new blog so please bare with me. I'm attempting to maintain an off grid lifestyle, and still keep my friends!
I'm trying to keep vehicle use to a minimum too, so that means working from home as much as possible. Living in a yurt off grid in a Welsh winter like were having is pretty much a full time job anyway. so here goes.....
The Pine cone is just for scale.
This is the initial set up, with 2 X 100watt solar panels
